Today marks the beginning of 4G services in parts of the UK from mobile networks O2 and Vodafone (for customers who own 4G-compatible smartphones such as the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4, amongst others, that is). So far Vodafone has only launched its 4G service in a few areas in London whereas O2 has taken a greater leap, rolling out in London, Bradford and Leeds. Both networks are behind provider EE though, which has offered 4G services to customers in the UK since October 2012.

It’s not just certain mobile networks that are lagging behind on the 4G bandwagon however. The UK as a whole seems to be ambling along compared to countries such as the US, Australia, South Korea and Japan who’ve all pretty much accepted 4G with their arms very wide open.

Interestingly, Ofcom reported earlier this month that people in the UK aren’t really that interested in the faster 4G service and don’t see the point of it. Perhaps they’re not aware that with the faster connection they’re able to surf the Internet at speeds that are between five to seven times quicker than what 3G currently provides…

Due to the fact that there’s not as much interest in the faster connection, mobile networks are trying their best to put out attractive deals for customers. For instance, Vodafone has decided to package its 4G along with Premier League football and music downloads to make it a little more attractive.
